With 60 years of combined experience, Ecos Research Principals bring unique insight and practical direction to a wide variety of energy technology projects.
Chris co-founded Ecos Consulting, later acquired by Ecova. Ecos was an early force in helping to transform markets for energy efficient consumer products and technologies. Chris led the firm’s Research and Policy team from the company’s inception through 2009 then served as Principal Investigator for Ecova’s initiatives on energy efficient lighting, power conversion, appliances, and consumer electronics.
Chris began his career in energy efficiency at the Natural Resources Defense Council in San Francisco, where he supported NRDC’s ground-breaking initiatives on climate change, automotive fuel efficiency, electric vehicles, efficient lighting, and utility regulatory reform. He co-founded and led the California Compact, a partnership between NRDC, LBNL, and California’s utilities to encourage greater sales of compact fluorescent lighting.
Chris currently lectures around the country on opportunities to achieve ZNE through changes in plug loads, lighting, and occupant behavior. He designed and built an all-electric zero net energy (ZNE) home in 2012-2013 with integrated, disaggregated energy monitoring and electric vehicle charging. Chris holds a B.A. in environmental studies from Trinity University and an M.A. in Energy & Resources from the University of California at Berkeley.
founded Resource Engineering Group to bring efficiency, sustainability, and simplicity to building engineering. Under Dave’s direction, REG was consulting engineer or engineer-of-record for hundreds of building projects including multi-family developments, resorts, commercial spaces, and schools. Formerly with E Source and the Rocky Mountain Institute’s Energy Program, his work has included co-authorship of comprehensive books on energy efficiency in buildings, and dozens of technical papers and journal articles on topics ranging from liquid flow meters to underfloor ventilation systems. In addition to overseeing REG building projects, Dave provides energy technology consulting to clients including utility companies, property portfolio managers, and national organizations pursuing energy efficiency.
He is a member of ASHRAE, an Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Certified Energy Manager, and is a licensed professional engineer in seven states. Dave formerly served on the Gunnison County Planning Commission, the Board of Directors of Gunnison County Electric Association (an electric distribution utility), and was a founding board member of the Office for Resource Efficiency (a non-profit). Dave earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with Honors from the University of California at Berkeley.
